Summary: HSJ get their first variety show.
AN: Written for the 2011 Halloween JE100 drabble exchange, for Kiayro, who wanted BEST to have their own variety show.

Fierce Competition

“I’m here, I’m here!” Hikaru shouted as the door slammed open, nearly scaring Daiki and Takaki to death. “Train delay! Did I miss anything!”

“It’s fine, it’s fine,” Yabu said, waving a hand lazily. “See, I told you guys he’d be here, no worries.”

“It’s the first episode filming, a little punctuality wouldn’t hurt,” Inoo reminded. “And we don’t even know what we’re doing yet.”

“I heard something about physical challenges,” Takaki said, always up on the crew gossip since he liked to loiter around the stylists’ stations and scavenge styling tricks. “Or feats of strength? Or something.”

“Like a competition?” Yabu grinned. “Ooh, sounds fun!”

“Hope it’s not a height competition, for Dai-chan’s sake,” Inoo said, getting a punch in the arm from Daiki.

“But what do you think we’ll be competing for?” Hikaru asked, and nobody knew the answer to that. It had to wait until filming actually started, and so all of them were dying of curiosity by the time the staff member came to get them for five-minute call.

Once on stage, the lights came up to reveal a white throne, facing away from them. The theme music cut out, a spotlight trained on the throne and it rotated to reveal…

…Yamada, lounging lazily in a princely suit, grinning down at them.

“Didn’t they tell you?” His grin only widened at their expressions. “You’re competing for my love.”
