\nAN<\/b>: Written for Shiritori. Another fic about the Floods coming in different colors for different emotions. I think Lea would think they were absolutely hilarious. <\/p>\n
Floods are Friends, Not Pets<\/b><\/p>\n
\u201cThis is definitely the start of an interesting friendship,\u201d Ventus chuckled as Lea crouched down to inspect the Flood lurking around their feet. Most of the Floods only lasted a few hours, a day at most, but the orange, curly one had been around for almost a week, sniffing things, investigating corners, and chewing on any unguarded shoelaces. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is it?\u201d Roxas asked suspiciously. He\u2019d already fussily shooed the Flood off of his sneakers. Ventus didn\u2019t understand what it was with Twilight Town kids and their sneakers, but whatever it was, Roxas had contracted it. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve seen Floods before,\u201d Lea said. He poked the Flood between the eyes, making its ears flatten. It arched like a cat when he ran a hand down its back, and then stretched up to take a swipe at the bottom of Lea\u2019s ponytail. <\/p>\n
\u201cOnly the sharp, purple ones trying to eat my face,\u201d Roxas said. He wrinkled his nose as Lea scooped up the Flood like a cat, making it squeak-chirp happily. \u201cAre we going or what?\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cSure thing,\u201d Lea said easily, standing up. The Flood lounged easily in the crook of his arm, looking around with perked ears as Lea and Ventus headed towards the door. When Lea noticed Roxas wasn\u2019t following, he called over his shoulder, \u201cC\u2019mon, Rox, keep up!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou aren\u2019t bringing that thing, are you?\u201d Roxas demanded as they got outside. Lea\u2019s Gummi Ship was parked on the nearest patch of Land of Departure grass. \u201cRiku said no pets in the Gummi ship.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFloods aren\u2019t pets,\u201d Ventus piped up. \u201cThey\u2019re\u2026well, they aren\u2019t pets.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a Sora rule,\u201d Lea added, dropping his free hand onto Roxas\u2019s hair to muss it up as soon as Roxas caught up. \u201cIt\u2019s because Sora tends to try and bring pets home in the Gummi ship, not take current pets on an adventure.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a pet!\u201d Ventus repeated. <\/p>\n
\u201cGet it? An ad-VEN-ture!\u201d Lea grinned when Ventus and Roxas gave him identical dirty looks. \u201cOh man, this is gold, how have I never taken a field trip with you two together before? Here, hold this a sec.\u201d<\/p>\n
Roxas protested as Lea pushed the Flood into his arms and tried to push it back, but Lea was patting down his pockets, looking for his keys. The Flood made a grab for Roxas\u2019s necklace.<\/p>\n
\u201cStop that,\u201d Roxas scolded it. The Flood was soft but not furry, more like staticky, making the hairs on Roxas\u2019s arms rise. \u201cWhat are these even made of?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy feelings,\u201d Ventus said. Roxas squinted at him, but Ventus just blinked back, guileless.<\/p>\n
\u201cAha!\u201d Lea exclaimed, yanking his keys out of his inside jacket pocket. He thumbed the clicker, and his Gummi Ship beeped obligingly. \u201cWhoooo\u2019s ready for Wonderland?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWheep wheep!\u201d cheered the Flood, squirming in Roxas\u2019s grip. Lea reached over and bumped a tiny high-five against its waving foot. <\/p>\n
\u201cSee, this guy gets it,\u201d Lea announced. He paused, tilting his head. \u201cOr lady? This one has less of a dude vibe than the shrieking anxiety one.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey don\u2019t really have genders,\u201d Ventus said, patting the Flood on the head. \u201cSince they\u2019re intangible concepts.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIntangible?\u201d Roxas demanded, since the Flood was chomping very tangibly on his hoodie strings.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood news for you, little buddy, that\u2019s my favorite gender!\u201d Lea scooped the Flood out of Roxas\u2019s arms and settled it slung over his shoulder like an enormous cat. \u201cMe and my buddy here are going to Wonderland for some excellent cookies and much needed synthesis pieces, so get your identical butts in the ship if you want to come along. Play your cards right and I might let you keep a couple centimeters of height when we come back, Light knows you both could use some of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m gonna put bleach in his shampoo,\u201d Roxas muttered. \u201cHe\u2019s gonna lose that thing in Wonderland in one second flat, you know that, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s ok,\u201d Ventus said pleasantly. \u201cI\u2019ll make more.\u201d<\/p>\n
