Yellow for Devotion<\/b><\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s up with that?\u201d Sora asked as he came into the kitchen. Riku glanced up from the table, strewn with vases and cut gladioli fronds, to see Sora was sleep-rumpled and clearly bleary from his nap. Yawning, Sora snapped his fingers. He frowned when nothing happened, then grumbled as he remembered he was not at the Mysterious Tower and mugs of tea couldn\u2019t be summoned out of thin air. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the Night of the Seven Travelers,\u201d Ventus said as Sora opened one cabinet, then another, then another to finally find the mugs. \u201cYou leave the windows open and put vases of gladioli out so the lost wielder and last traveler can meet again.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sora blinked very slowly. \u201cWhat?\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a legend from Scala,\u201d Riku explained a little better, grinning at Sora\u2019s baleful expression. \u201cMaster Ephemer sent his first seven students out to travel the worlds, but the last one never came home, so one of the others went to look for him.\u201d Riku stretched out a gladiolus to tickle Sora\u2019s nose. \u201cShould have tried these when you got lost in Corona last week.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cEat a dick,\u201d Sora retorted blandly, agitating his tea bag. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey can\u2019t meet here anyway, there isn\u2019t even a fountain,\u201d Ventus said, almost to himself. He stood up and picked up two of the filled vases. \u201cI\u2019m going to take these up to Aqua and Terra\u2019s rooms.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSure,\u201d Riku said, fussing with the tall flowers in his own vase. Sora sat down beside him on the bench, still yawning. \u201cYou know, I think it\u2019s Tanabata at home this week.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cEhh.\u201d Sora flicked gently at a flower. \u201cWhy are all these holidays about separated lovers? That\u2019s junk.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI think this one\u2019s just about a constellation,\u201d Riku soothed, wrapping an arm around Sora\u2019s waist. \u201cBut we can still string up wishes if you want. Anything you want to wish for this summer?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo stop being so tired.\u201d Sora slumped into Riku\u2019s side. \u201cTo stay with you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAw, those are no fun,\u201d Riku teased, keeping his voice light when it felt like his chest was squeezing tight. \u201cWhere\u2019s my Sora with the impossible wishes like having a pet dinosaur and flying a rocket?\u201d<\/p>\n
Sora snorted. \u201cWhat\u2019s your impossible wish, smart guy?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMm, mine keep coming true,\u201d Riku murmured, thinking about all the ones he used to write in crayon: to leave the Islands, to see other worlds, to be strong and last year\u2019s secretly penned to see Sora again. \u201cSo I better not. You can wish for both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen did you get so boring?\u201d Sora tried to tease, but his voice cracked on the last word. Riku dropped the flower he was trying to jam into the vase to hug Sora properly. \u201cSorry, ugh, that keeps happening.\u201d Sora tried to draw a deep breath, chest hitching. \u201cI\u2019m not even sad.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am, that was me,\u201d Riku admitted, pressing his forehead against Sora\u2019s shoulder. Even after months, their heart link wasn\u2019t entirely back to normal. \u201cLast year when I was here waiting for you, that\u2019s when Aqua taught me about the Night of the Seven Travelers. I think she thought it would help, decorating and learning some legends from Master Eraqus, but it just made me miss you like a hundred times harder.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s ok,\u201d Sora said, squeezing Riku back tightly. \u201cShh, it\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cStop it, I\u2019m supposed to be comforting you,\u201d Riku complained, shutting his eyes. It took some concentration for Riku to bring his emotions under control enough to stop it spilling over the link. \u201cThere. Sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sora pressed a kiss to Riku\u2019s temple. \u201cYou know I don\u2019t care. What do sword lilies mean again?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cStrength,\u201d Riku answered, straightening up and rubbing his eye with the heel of his hand. \u201cBut Ven says that here they mean remembrance, white for light and yellow for devotion.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYellow\u2019s your favorite,\u201d Sora said, picking his mug back up and blowing on it. \u201cWhen Aqua gets back, maybe her version will make more sense than you and Ven\u2019s, yikes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWanna go find a book in the library about it?\u201d Riku offered. \u201cUnless you think you\u2019ll get too lost again, making it the Night of the Eight Travelers.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cJust for that I\u2019m not going to make out in the stacks with you,\u201d Sora sniffed. Riku gasped, affronted. \u201cOk, ok, only because you\u2019re cute.\u201d <\/p>\n
