Dreamed That I Was Underneath

Sora did not look like he was in great shape when Riku made it back to the Mysterious Tower, two days late from his trip to Radiant Garden. Sora’s smile was real when he threw himself at Riku for a hug, but his grip was just this side of too tight, and the dark circles under his eyes said he hadn’t been sleeping again.

“Sorry I took so long,” Riku apologized, face buried in Sora’s hair, squishing Sora close against him. “There was a Neoshadow nest in the Bastion, then this annoying Marine Rumba flock in the fountains, then a Devastator fried half the castle’s computers…I’m sorry.”

“Not your fault,” Sora answered. He didn’t sound angry, but with his nose against Sora’s hair Riku could smell frustration and annoyance radiating off of him.

The smell was almost the same as right after Sora snapped out of a Rage Form, when darkness was still evaporating off his skin, sharp in Riku’s nose, faintly burnt. Usually that scent faded quickly, but this was more like smoke clinging to Sora’s hair and clothes, acrid, lingering.

“You’re sniffing me, weirdo,” Sora said. Riku pushed Sora back by the shoulders just far enough to examine his face. Sora didn’t look strange, just tired, eyelids heavy and expression pouty. Even his hair spikes were drooping.

“Did something happen?” Riku asked, rubbing his thumb gently against Sora’s cheek.

“Here?” Sora’s laugh was sharp, unhappy. “Of course nothing happened, that’s why I’m on house arrest here.”

“You are not—” Riku forced himself to stop when Sora’s expression turned immediately mutinous; he didn’t want to argue when he’d only been back five minutes. Riku understood Sora’s frustration at being left behind, but this seemed like more than that. “I just mean, you look like kind of a wreck.”

“Love you too,” Sora grumbled, pulling totally out of Riku’s grip. He turned to trudge back into the Tower without another word, back stiff. Riku sighed softly through his nose and shouldered his backpack to follow, jogging the few steps to catch up.

“Swatting Marine Rumbas would have been a lot more fun with you,” Riku said. “I won’t go out again until you can.”

“Don’t promise junk like that,” Sora replied.

Sora wasn’t too angry, though, because he made Riku macaroni and cheese the long way, from scratch and baked in the oven. It was early afternoon, or what passed for it at the Tower, kind of too early for dinner, but Riku was content to sit in the kitchen and watch Sora as he rummaged through magic cabinets and fended off the enchanted kitchen tools. Riku thought Sora was especially cute waiting impatiently for the macaroni to boil, cheeks pink and hair curling from the steam, shooing away the overzealous salt shaker hovering near his pot.

“I know how much salt to put in!” Sora snapped at the salt shaker, brandishing his spoon like a fly swatter. “You don’t even have a mouth!”

Once they were both sitting at the table with mugs of tea, nothing to do but wait until the casserole was baked, Riku finally asked, “Any progress figuring out why your magic’s coming back so slowly?”

“Master Yen Sid says it’s just because I overdid it again.” Sora scowled down at his mug. “He said that if I keep doing it, it’ll come back even slower the next time. He said I should know my own limits and not take reckless risks and Ethers don’t solve everything and I never think ahead before I—“

“He did not say all that,” Riku interrupted, bumping his shoulder gently into Sora’s.

“He said it with his eyebrows,” Sora retorted. Sora furrowed his eyebrows tight together and lowered his voice into a sonorous impression of Yen Sid. “Soraaa, a true Keyblade wielder would have read every book in the library twice by now! Why don’t you know every tiny detail about Grand Thunder Magic yet?”

Riku snorted, then straightened up to do his own impression. “Master Rikuuu, is it too much to ask that your form not make it so obvious that you were trained by a three-foot mouse?”

Sora’s peal of laughter was so loud it echoed off the stone floor, and Riku hid his grin of satisfaction by taking another sip of tea. When Sora slumped more comfortably against Riku’s side, Riku dropped one arm to curl around his waist.

“I did overdo it,” Sora admitted, squishing his cheek against Riku’s shoulder. Riku remembered well enough, the blinding crack of Sora’s Thundaza, the ozone burning his throat, and Sora collapsing after like his strings had been cut. “But so did you and your magic’s just fine. Why is it always just me?”

“Because your magic’s stronger than mine,” Riku said.

“No, it isn’t,” Sora argued. “That’s ridiculous.”

“It is,” Riku insisted. “When I run out of magic, I just run out. When you run out, you reach down deep into some other place inside you and nearly murder yourself with Thundaza. Please stop that, by the way.”

“I’m obviously trying,” Sora sighed. He scowled at his mug. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore.”

“All right,” Riku agreed, surprised he had even gotten this much out of Sora in one try. On the other hand, he was not surprised at all when Sora pulled the mug out of Riku’s hands and crawled into Riku’s lap to kiss him as an obvious distraction.

Riku melted into the attention happily, humming as Sora cupped his cheeks and deepened the kiss into something more heated. The warmth of Sora’s body against his and the relief of having him close enough to grab had Riku’s arousal rising faster than usual, until he was seriously thinking about pushing Sora back onto the table, nosy teapot be damned.

“Welcome home,” Sora murmured, winding fingers in Riku’s hair. “I forgot to say.”

“Mmhmm.” Riku dragged his lips across Sora’s jaw, then bit down on the spot just under his ear, making Sora gasp. “I’m back.”

The kitchen timer interrupted their fun, chirping and head-butting Sora’s hands (and Riku’s head) until Sora gave up and made a grab for it.

“Hold that thought for later,” he promised, stealing one more kiss before sliding off of Riku’s lap to check the oven.

Having a full stomach made Riku’s exhaustion weigh down on him suddenly, but he wasn’t too tired to tumble Sora into bed as soon as they made it up to their room. He’d missed Sora so much when they could only talk over the phone, missed every single part of him. He made up for it now by determinedly kissing each of those parts as he stripped Sora’s clothes off, the freckles across Sora’s shoulders, the starburst scar over his heart, his hipbones, the inside of his thighs.

“Riku, please,” Sora panted, fingers twisting restlessly in the sheets.

Riku gave him what he wanted, sliding his mouth down over Sora’s cock, his own impatience equalling Sora’s for once. He’d missed this too, the weight of Sora on his tongue, the heat and salt of his skin. Riku hummed low in his throat because that always drove Sora crazy. He relaxed his jaw to swallow Sora to the back of his throat, the mild discomfort of it more than worth Sora’s breathless moan of his name. Under Riku’s relentless attention, Sora came unravelled quickly, a sudden yank to Riku’s hair all the warning Sora managed before coming.

“Hey, come on,” Sora murmured when Riku didn’t pull away, sucking Sora past the point of overstimulation. “Riku!”

Sora’s muscles were shivering under Riku’s hands where they rested on Sora’s hips; Riku wanted more of that, excited by Sora’s squirming and steady noises. His own cock was trapped underneath him, aching, but Riku didn’t care about it, all his focus on licking Sora clean and whether he should just keep his mouth right there until Sora was hard again.

“Riku,” Sora insisted. Riku lifted his head with a soft grumble, not entirely thrilled with the interruption, even if it meant he got a good look at how Sora was flushed bright pink halfway down his chest. Sora smiled down at him lop-sidedly. “Get up here, stupid, I want to touch you too.”

Far be it from Riku to deny a direct request like that. Crawling up, he let Sora pull him down against his side and into a messy kiss as he fumbled a hand between them. Riku loved Sora’s hands too, clever and strong, the feeling of Sora’s fingers curling around his cock as thrilling as it was familiar. Riku groaned into Sora’s mouth as he rocked his hips up into Sora’s touch, too turned on to hold back. He was already breathing too unevenly to sustain kissing, pressing his mouth to Sora’s cheek and temple instead.

“That close already?” Sora teased, circling his thumb around the head of Riku’s cock.

“Your fault,” Riku said. He hugged Sora closer, up onto his side so that he was thrusting against Sora’s stomach just as much as his hands. “I missed you, so much.”

“Show me,” Sora ordered, twisting his wrist just right. Riku closed his eyes and let the fire racing along his nerves drag him under, spilling over Sora’s hand and skin in shuddering pulses. Sora stroked Riku through it, grip firm enough to make Riku whine, until Riku squeezed him too tightly against his chest for Sora to move his hand anymore.

Head spinning pleasantly, Riku fumbled for his discarded T-shirt to wipe Sora off at least somewhat. Then he used the last of his energy to grab the blankets he’d pushed to the side and pulled them over both of them.

“It’s not even night yet,” Sora protested, starting to sit up. Riku was having none of that, hooking an arm around Sora’s waist and dragging him back down firmly against Riku’s chest.

“Just for a bit,” Riku murmured, eyes already shut. He could argue that Sora needed the sleep more than him, but that was obviously a losing argument. Resettling his arms around Sora more comfortably, Riku slid one hand into Sora’s hair, scratching his nails gently against Sora’s scalp in the way Sora liked best. “Please stay?”

Sora heaved a sigh, breath hot against Riku’s skin, and Riku knew he’d won.

“Fine,” Sora said, like it was a chore. He shuffled his position a little, tugging at the blankets, then went limp against Riku’s chest. “Just until you fall asleep.”

“Sure,” Riku agreed.

Five minutes later, Sora’s breathing was slow and even. Riku tried not to feel too smug about himself as he slid into sleep himself.

Opening his eyes to a nightmare wasn’t a surprise—Riku had suspected as much based on Sora’s mood and obvious sleep deprivation. Riku looked around to get his bearings, to try and guess what kind of dream this was. At least it wasn’t Monstro again; Sora always got the smell exactly right.

He was in the woods, the trees crowded close together in the gloom, trunks dark and branches jagged. It was like a cross between the deep woods of Enchanted Dominion and the swamp maze of Corona. The air smelled of damp, rotting wood, and haze made seeing more than a few yards ahead impossible. Above him, the branches locked together too tightly to see the sky, casting everything in ominous twilight.

No sign of Sora, though. Riku looked right and left, not seeing any landmarks, and a shout of Sora’s name only echoed out into the nothingness. If Riku didn’t know any better, it would have seemed like he was alone in his own dream. He did know better, because the Dream Eater sigil was hot across his back, not unpleasantly so, but unmistakable. His heartlink to Sora was buzzing as well, the rhythm of it unsteady from Sora’s panic or fear. Not for the first time, Riku wished their heartlink could do something useful like lead him in a direction instead of just making him feel like he was about to have a panic attack.

Riku wasn’t too worried. He knew from experience that other help would show up quickly any time he dropped into one of Sora’s nightmares. Sure enough, something the size of a beachball struck Riku’s back with enough force to knock him forward a step.

“Oof!” Riku grunted, turning to get his hands on the yellow puffball causing the trouble. Komory Bat chirped happily as Riku squashed him with both hands like a plushie. “Hey, you. Think you could use a little echolocation to figure out where we are?”

“Squeep!” Making a determined face, Komory flapped up to settle on Riku’s head. Even though he was expecting it, Riku still startled at Komory’s sudden shriek of Supersonic which felt like it rattled his whole skull. A second Supersonic in another direction forced Riku to cover his hands with his ears.

“Ouch,” Riku grumbled, remembering that normal people couldn’t hear echolocation frequencies. Apparently this was another Dream Eater perk Riku hadn’t asked for. Komory patted Riku’s head with a claw in apology. “Anything?”

Komory didn’t answer for a few seconds, listening with ears perked high. Riku was just opening his mouth to pick a direction when Komory gave an excited squap, wings flapping.

“What is it?” Riku asked. A second later, he heard it too: a familiar squeak-bark coming through the tree. Riku turned this way and that, trying to determine the direction. “We’re here! Over here!”

Meow Wow burst through some bushes into sight a few moments later, making a beeline for Riku and barreling right into Riku’s knees. He almost took Riku down, thanks to his low center of gravity and Komory’s weight on Riku’s head, unbalancing him.

“Ok, ok!” Riku laughed, kneeling down to pet the wriggling Dream Eater. “Sora’s stuck in this nightmare somewhere, right? Can you take us where he is?”

Meow Wow barked and rolled out of Riku’s hands, taking off running again back the way he’d come.

“Hey, slow down!” Riku called, but the blue spirit was almost out of sight, gloom swallowing him as soon as he was a dozen meters away. Riku reached up to poke Komory in the belly. “I think I need to borrow your wings, buddy.”

There was a golden burst of light, energy flooding through Riku’s blood and making his breath catch. When he opened his eyes, Komory was gone, and Riku flexed his wings to adjust himself to their weight and air resistance. He took off after Meow Wow, skimming just high enough off the ground to keep from tripping on roots, but low enough to keep from getting tangled tree branches and vines.

Despite his worry about Sora, Riku found himself grinning. Flying in Rising Wing was exhilarating no matter the circumstances, and chasing after Meow Wow as he bounced through bushes and around trees was fun too. He and Sora should race like this sometime, Riku thought, next time they met in a nicer dream.

Meow Wow skidded to stop suddenly, looking back at Riku and whining. From here the forest grew even darker, the wisps wrapping around the trees no longer mist but black tendrils of darkness. Meow Wow growled and tried to charge in, but he bounced off like he’d hit a wall. Whatever Nightmare Sora was having, it was too strong for the little Dream Eater to break in.

“He’s in there?” Riku asked. Meow Wow whined, ears and tail drooping. Meow Wow’s fur was standing on end all down its spine; Riku patted the top of its head, smoothing some of his fur back down. “I’ll take it from here, don’t worry.”

Summoning Braveheart, Riku drew it back and took a deep breath, then stabbed forward. Braveheart’s tip caught in the same place Meow Wow had bounced back, but Riku pressed forward, feeling the keyblade’s edge start to catch. Riku threw more of his weight into it, and suddenly there was a crack of the barrier giving way, fractures radiating out from the spot Braveheart was stuck. Drawing his keyblade back and raising it over his head, Riku struck the weakened spot with a two-handed wham. The weakened place shattered like heavy glass, Riku throwing up a hand to shield his face, leaving a hole big enough for Riku to duck through.

Shards crunched under Riku’s boots as he examined the hole. The edges of it were sickly green, reminding him of Maleficent’s magic, and through the gap was only black emptiness, giving no hint about what Riku might find inside. Meow Wow got a running start and jumped into the hole before Riku could stop him.

“Here we go, I guess,” Riku murmured to himself. He pulled his wings in tight to keep from scraping them on the jagged edges and picked his way over the barrier.

As soon as he was inside, all light vanished completely. Riku would have been in the pitch dark, except for the fact that he glowed lightly blue in Rising Wing form. He could only see his own hands in front of him, held out to make sure he didn’t break his nose on another barrier. Even the hole behind him had vanished, not that that mattered. The only way out of a nightmare was to find Sora at the center of it anyway.

A flicker of light caught Riku’s eye, far ahead. Lacking any other landmark, Riku headed towards it, walking at first, then jogging. He started catching other flickers out of the corner of his eyes, but he was focused on the blur in front of him, moving when he moved and still when he stopped. It wasn’t until he got close enough for the blur to resolve into a shape that he understood.

It was a mirror. He’d been running at his own reflection, the light his own blue light. Slowing to a walk as he approached, Riku looked around and realized there were other mirrors all around, dozens of them, high and low, stretching as far as he could see and probably farther, where his light couldn’t reach. Riku stopped just in front of the mirror he’d been running towards, examining it. Nothing seemed unusual about it, the border of it less like a solid frame and more like delicate silver scrollwork. Riku’s reflection imitated him perfectly as Riku frowned at it and passed his hand back and forth.

Riku stepped back, meaning to examine the back of the mirror, but suddenly Meow Wow darted through the background of the reflection, his barking echoing faintly. Whipping around, Riku looked behind him, but there was nothing behind him, just emptiness and more mirrors. Meow Wow was only in the reflection, stopping to bark at Riku before dashing off again, past the frame.

“What the…” Riku put a hand up, hesitating, and then laid his palm against the mirror. Instead of cold glass like he expected, it felt like laying his hand flat on still water, surface tension resisting his hand from pushing down into it. When Riku pressed harder, his hand went right through, Riku stumbling forward through the space as if nothing had been there at all.

When he looked over his shoulder, only his reflection looked back, his Dream Eater sigil glowing brightly. Meow Wow’s barking was clearer on this side, though, and when Riku reached back, the mirror was firm, so it seemed like the mirrors were a one-way trip. Nothing looked different on this side, still mirrors in all directions, although Riku guessed Sora must be inside one of them, or else they made some kind of path to him.

“Dammit,” Riku sighed, rubbing his face. “Soraaaa!” Riku’s voice bounced off in all directions, echoing weirdly. “Mirrors everywhere, honestly. The next time that guy tries to tell me he’s not vain…”

His complaints cut off suddenly when he caught sight of Meow Wow dashing somewhere out ahead of him. Riku kicked off the ground to try and catch the spirit, flapping his wings for speed. He was only about halfway caught up when Meow Wow skidded to a stop in front of one mirror, sniffing it.

“Wait!” Riku called, but Meow Wow was already hopping through it like a poodle doing a trick with a hoop. Gritting his teeth, Riku dove towards the same mirror without slowing down, tucking his wings in at the last second.

He hit the ground on the other side and rolled out of it quickly, looking around for Meow Wow. Meow Wow wasn’t far, fortunately, sniffing around the frames of another group of mirrors a few dozen meters away. The mirrors were closer together here, other Rikus flashing by on every side as Riku ran before he lost the spirit again. The effect was nauseating, especially when some of the mirrors caught each other’s reflections and sent Rikus running in all different directions. Riku almost lost Meow Wow again when he reached for the spirit and his hand bounced off a reflection instead.

Whirling around, Riku caught Meow Wow by the scruff of the neck, sighing in relief when his fingers sank into fur.

“You need a leash,” Riku grumbled, sinking to his knees to hug Meow Wow around the neck for comfort. “Not that I know what part of you a collar would even stay on.” Meow Wow squeak-growled at him, squirming impatiently. The heart link was thrumming more noticeably in Riku’s chest, making his heartbeat lurch unpleasantly. “I think we’d better hurry.”

How the Dream Eater knew the path through the mirrors, Riku had no idea, but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was that he kept up as Meow Wow dashed through Sora’s dreamscape, diving through another mirror and another. The mirrors gathered closer together with each layer they dropped through, until there was barely room for Riku to squeeze between them. The mirrors crowded upwards instead in shifting rows.

Riku’s chest clenched tight when he finally caught a flash of brown hair spikes out of the corner of his eye. The mirror nearest to Riku only had a partial view of Sora, catching the back of his head and the bright red of his hood. Riku looked around to figure out where the source of the reflection was, craning his neck to follow the angle up.

“There, he’s there!” Riku called to Meow Wow, pointing up to the mirror with the clearest view. It was still looking at the back of Sora’s head, but it was the only mirror with a full view of Sora’s silhouette. Riku kicked off the ground with a flap of his wings, heading straight for the mirror. Airstep got him close enough to grab the frame. Hanging there precariously, Riku nearly fumbled his grip before managing to Airslide himself up and over the bottom edge of the frame.

The momentum of his flip through the mirror dropped Riku like a stone on the other side, and he hit the ground with a grunt. Gravity felt suddenly heavier in the center of the nightmare, standing back up requiring noticeable effort. But Sora still wasn’t here, and Meow Wow had disappeared too. Riku was standing alone in a circle of mirrors. These mirrors were joined edge to edge, caging Riku inside, dozens of reflections of Sora separated from Riku by the glass.

“What the fuck?” Riku snapped in frustration. The perspective of Sora’s reflections all made it seem as if Sora should be standing right next to him, or in the spot where Riku himself was standing. He yelled another “SORA!” but none of the reflections seemed to hear him, the sound echoing eerily back and forth off the glass.

Riku shut his eyes and drew a deep breath, holding it for a count of four, getting control of his temper. Whatever this was, it was still Sora’s dream, and Riku had to calm down and figure it out in order to break him out of it. Once he had himself more under control, he opened his eyes and looked around, examining the reflections.

The mirrors weren’t all reflecting the same Sora; some were wearing different clothes, like Sora’s original outfit from the Good Fairies or the hoodie that Sora had worn for weeks while he was healing after Quadratum. They were different ages, shorter Soras mixed in with ones that looked current, and even a few very young ones, the Sora in Riku’s earliest memories. Sora wasn’t alone in the mirrors either, the other people equally varied, from Roxas to Aqua to Donald and Goofy, plus some others who Riku didn’t recognize, presumably from worlds Riku hadn’t visited with Sora. They were all talking, although Riku couldn’t hear any of their voices. Worse, Sora looked miserable in all of them, eyes downcast, arms folded tightly, mouth a thin line, all body language that Riku could read easier than any words.

Riku chose the nearest mirror where Sora looked most like his waking self and walked closer. Yen Sid was in this mirror, looming over Sora with his usual stern expression, the situation easily recognizable as Sora getting lectured about something. The scene seemed realistic, from Sora’s scuffed sneakers to Yen Sid’s office around them. Were all these mirrors showing Sora’s memories? Maybe the nightmare was using painful memories to trap Sora in place, Riku reasoned.

Riku had hoped that he could break into the scene, but the mirror was solid glass when he put his palms against it. This close, however, Sora and Yen Sid’s voices became audible, and Riku leaned in closer to hear what they were talking about.

“You are too reckless,” Yen Sid was saying. The flat, factual way he scolded always made you feel small, and this Sora sure enough was hunching his shoulders as if trying to make himself smaller. “You endangered yourself but more importantly others! Rushing about thoughtlessly, how exactly did you think that would help anyone?”

“I…” Sora’s voice seemed stuck, choked. “I didn’t…”

“Hey!” Riku shouted, pressing in closer against the glass. “Knock it off!” Neither Sora nor Yen Sid reacted. Riku slammed his palm against the glass, but still nothing changed.

“Yes, you never think, do you?” Yen Sid continued. “You’re as thoughtless as the day you came here. You’ve learned nothing at all, have you, Sora?”

“Not a memory,” Riku said, hot anger washing through him. Yen Sid was sometimes too hard on Sora, but he would never say something as cruel as that. Calling Braveheart into his hand, Riku swung at the mirror in a downward sweep, hoping to shatter it like the barrier earlier.

Instead, Braveheart bounced off the glass with a ringing noise like a tuning fork, the force of it rattling Riku’s teeth and sending a sharp ache through his wrist. Sora lifted his head, frowning. Hope sparking, Riku shouted Sora’s name and pounded the mirror with his free hand. He growled in frustration when Sora’s head dropped again without looking at him.

Yen Sid, however, looked past Sora at Riku. Something about his—no, its—gaze sent dread crawling up Riku’s spine. It certainly wasn’t Yen Sid or even Sora’s memory of him, but something using his form. The nightmare, Riku guessed.

“Hello, there. Who are you?” The thing said, brushing past Sora and coming to examine Riku through the mirror. “This isn’t your dream, now is it? Run along, lost spirit.”

“Let him go!” Riku snapped, brandishing Braveheart in front of him, two-handed. “Or I’ll come in there and make you!”

The nightmare laughed, shrill and amused, which was probably the most unsettling thing he could have done with Yen Sid’s mouth. “And just how will you do that? You’re out there, after all, and Sora’s safe in here with me.” The nightmare smiled, grin stretching out unnaturally wide. “I’m taking good care of him.”

“I warned you,” Riku said. “Thundaga!” Lightning crackling up Braveheart’s blade, Riku took another swing at the mirror. Everything lit up white-blue for a second, but when his vision cleared, Riku snarled in frustration at the mirror, still whole and unmarked.

“Good luck with that,” the nightmare said. It flicked a glance over Riku’s head at all the other mirrors. “You’ve certainly got plenty of other memories to try. This one is so full of them, so much pain and anger and shame. Delicious.”

The mirror went black. Riku struck it a few more times, shouting his frustration, then whirled around. He marched over to another mirror, where Donald and Goofy were both scolding Sora with their hands on their hips. Sora was so young in this one that he was barely taller than Donald.

“You’re way too young for any of this,” Goofy was saying, the disappointment in his voice worse than if he’d been shouting. Riku recognized the broken stone under their feet as Hollow Bastion, and he immediately regretted picking this mirror. “We shoulda left you in Traverse Town. The Keyblade was Riku’s the whole time.”

“Hey!” Riku shouted, winding up for another swing. Thunder hadn’t worked, so he tried fire and ice this time, thinking he could crack the glass with temperature change. “Icebreaker!” His first strike sent frost rushing over the glass, and when the second hit, the heat of Braveheart created an explosion that popped Riku’s ears. The glass blistered a little at the edges, but remained intact.

“Nice try.” Donald turned around to laugh. “You’re out of your league, little spirit. Go find a toddler to make a cute dream for, huh?” Then it paused and looked Riku over more closely, tapping Donald’s foot. “Wait, I know who you are. You’re in a million of these memories, you’re this guy.”

The nightmare shifted forms, Donald’s face melting away as it grew taller, feathers giving way to familiar blue waders and a yellow wetsuit. It grinned with Riku’s face, and Riku blackly thought that he sure might have a few nightmares of his own about that later.

The Sora in the mirror sure noticed that, snapping his head up. “Riku! I’ve been looking for you everywhere!”

“Why?” The nightmare put his hand on his hip, tilting his head arrogantly. The impression was uncomfortably accurate, and Riku struggled not to look away. “What would I want with a little kid like you?”

“You son of a bitch! I’m gonna—“ Riku started, but he was interrupted by the nightmare stepping out from the mirror, leaving a heartbroken Sora calling after him still inside. Riku bared his teeth, drawing himself over his younger form with his full height. “Big mistake, nightmare.”

“You’re one to talk, half of these heartbreaks have you in them,” the nightmare said carelessly, stepping deftly out of the way of Riku’s swing of his keyblade. “Look around, see for yourself.”

Riku did no such thing, concentrating on trying to take the nightmare out of commission. It was too fast for Riku to hit, flitting this way and that as it examined Riku more closely.

“You aren’t a spirit at all, are you?” it asked, almost to itself. It darted in close, the brush of its nose against Riku’s cheek filling him with revulsion as he jerked back, out of reach. “But you smell like one. What are you?”

“I’m your nightmare,” Riku said. He tried to pin it in place with Gravity Strike, but Braveheart whiffed through the air again.

“Really!” The nightmare burst out laughing, the sharp noise of it echoing off the mirrors making the hair on the back of Riku’s neck rise. “I don’t think so.”

The nightmare’s form began to melt again, this time growing taller, broader, until it was Terra looking down at Riku. The nightmare crossed its arms, shaking Terra’s head.

“Can’t even save Sora, still?” it said. “Haven’t we been here before? I was wrong about you, and your light.”

“That won’t work on me,” Riku said through gritted teeth. “I know you’re a nightmare. You’re a shitty imitation and that’s all! Dark Aura!”

“There’s so many things I can try, though,” the nightmare said, blocking the first few slashes with Ends of the Earth, then slipping through the next few strikes by shifting into Roxas’s much smaller body. Roxas’s sharp smile and cruel eyes were nothing like the real Roxas, but he swung Oblivion just as hard as the real one, a shower of sparks stinging Riku’s cheeks as it screeched along Braveheart’s blade. “Go on, hit me! You enjoyed that last time, deep down, I know you did. You know, when you sacrificed me for Sora? I bet Sora just loved finding out everything you did all for him.”

“Shut up!” Riku ordered, even though he knew it was a waste of breath. The fight swung briefly in his favor, Riku having sparred with Roxas almost more than anyone else in the last year.

Hissing, the Nightmare changed forms again, a black-coated Axel for the height advantage, then again to a young Xehanort, laughing as even Riku’s wings didn’t give him enough of an advantage to catch up. Nightmare Xehanhort Warped the instant before every hit connected, slippery and infuriating.

“You’re just like me,” the nightmare said, and this form was much closer to the real young Xehanort than the others had been, gold eyes dangerous, set in a face Riku could have gone to school with. “I thought I was doing the right thing too, seeking balance. But you’ve got it all under control, don’t you, young Master Riku?”

He most certainly was not under control, Riku’s temper snapping all at once. His Dream Eater sigil was searing his back, the energy of too many spells cast in quick succession building up until Riku was glowing white from it. The energy of the rising form change felt strange, but Riku was too angry to care what form it was so long as it put an end to this thing. The rush of magic over his skin tore a shout from his throat, adrenaline chasing hot-cold out to his fingers and wingtips.

Riku didn’t stop to look at what this new form looked like, noticing only that his arms had darkened to a bruised-twilight purple and his hands now ended in claws. He’d gained both size and speed, almost snagging the nightmare with his claws on the next grab, and his wings were much heavier on his back, visible in his peripheral vision as he moved. A strong flap of his wings shot Riku across the ground as fast as any Teleport, just as the nightmare reappeared. Satisfaction sang in Riku’s veins as he fisted one claw in that black coat and hauled the nightmare up to eye level, its feet dangling.

“No no no,” it gasped, already starting to change forms, silver hair shortening to brown spikes and eyes turning sky blue. “You wouldn’t—“

Riku didn’t wait to see the end of the transformation. He plunged his free hand into the center of the nightmare’s chest, ignoring its inhuman screeching and thrashing. Where a living thing would have a heart, Riku gripped the nightmare’s center, a squirming, pulsing thing, and squeezed his talons tight around it until it went CRACK.

The nightmare burst, dissolving into smoke, leaving only its core in Riku’s hand. When he opened his claws, the still-warm Dream Piece was hexagonal like a Grim Fancy, although it was a weird greenish color.

“Tcht, you weren’t that fancy,” Riku said to himself, then popped the Dream Piece into his mouth. It tasted better than it looked, at least, crunchy and brisk like a mint.

“Riku?” A familiar voice came from behind him. “Is that you?”

“Sora!” Riku exclaimed, whirling around. Relief flooded through him at the sight of Sora standing right in front of him, his regular age and wearing the hoodie and pajama pants his dream self usually appeared in. Sora looked bewildered and was rubbing teartracks off his cheeks, but looked otherwise whole and normal.

Sora blinked at Riku, eyes widening as he got a better look, mouth hanging open a little.

“What? Are you o—“ Riku cut off as he took a step forward and all the mirrors still surrounding them caught his reflection.

He’d gone full nightmare, there was no other way to describe it. He’d noticed the claws and purple skin, but he was purple all over, except the glowing teal of his eyes. He had horns poking out of his hair and sweeping back, uncomfortably reminiscent of Maleficent’s dragon form. His wings were much larger than in Rising Wing form, large enough to wrap around himself, the skin over the bones a dark blue while the skin stretched between was dark red, the same as Soul Eater had been. He also had a tail, no idea how he hadn’t noticed that before, long enough to reach the ground, swishing restlessly behind him.

“Shit,” Riku muttered, mortification sweeping through him at how thoroughly he’d lost control. He was a monster. Sora was still staring at him wordlessly. Riku fought the wild urge to bolt, squeezing his eyes shut so he wouldn’t have to see Sora staring at him. He forced a laugh. “Crazy form change. I’ll just…um. Give me a second.”

Usually the energy of a form change drained away naturally after a fight, so Riku didn’t have much of an idea about how to ‘turn it off.’ Riku tried to concentrate on ending the form change, but the new parts of his body were a distraction. He felt every touch of the air through his wings, and the coolness of floor under his tail. Clenching his fists, Riku tried even harder to will the inhuman parts to fade, but it was no good.

He was stuck this way.

Reluctantly, Riku opened his eyes, cheeks burning. Trust him to have a monster form that still had a blushing reflex. “Uh. This has never happened before.”

Sora laughed, then slapped a hand over his mouth. “Sorry! You just sounded like you were apologizing for not getting it up or something.” Sora’s blue eyes sparkled over top of his hand, and Riku was glad Sora felt better enough to tease him. “Does it hurt or anything?”

“No.” Riku flexed his wings out, stretching, then picked his tail up and set it back down. “It feels strange, but not bad. I’ve had wings before, but the tail is…”

“Yeah, that’s new,” Sora said. He was still looking Riku up and down, making Riku want to squirm. He took a step forward. Riku took a step back. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing!” Riku protested, too quickly. Sora gave him a bland look. “It’s nothing. Can you get rid of the mirrors, please?”

“The mirrors?” Sora glanced around as if just noticing them. “Sure, I guess.” The next second they were just gone, Sora dismissing them easily. It was his dream, after all.

They were back in the forest from the outermost layer of Sora’s dream, the trees wavering for a second between the weirdly angular trees of Enchanted Dominion and Corona’s twisting oaks, before settling on Corona. The thickness of the forest cast everything in shadow, but pleasantly so, not eerie like before.

Sora stepped closer, and Riku backed up again.

Sora pouted at him. “Riku.”

“Sorry.” Riku didn’t want Sora to touch him like this, but knew Sora would be hurt if he said that. “It’s just, I’m a gross nightmare. You don’t think it’s awful?”

“No,” Sora answered. “It’s just you. I’ve seen you form change lots of times.”

“Not like this,” Riku said glumly. He forced his tail to stop swishing anxiously with some effort.

“But your wings are so cool!” Sora insisted. Sora’s tone made Riku pause, excited and a little breathless. He was inching closer again. “They’re so big, and those colors…”

“You want to touch them,” Riku realized.

“Maybe.” Sora chewed his bottom lip a little, eyes bright with interest. Riku frowned, wings pulling in tighter against his back. A flash of disappointment crossed Sora’s face, but he covered it up quickly with a reassuring smile. “But it’s ok if you don’t want me to.”

Riku suppressed a sigh. Not like Sora could make it worse. “Fine. Just for a minute.”

“Are you sure?” Sora asked. He was holding perfectly still, hands tucked in his hoodie pocket, but he was practically vibrating with the effort of keeping his hands to himself. It would have made Riku smile if Riku hadn’t felt so embarrassed about the entire situation.

Riku nodded. “You can.” He held Sora’s gaze for a second longer before it was too much and he had to look away. He turned around so that Sora couldn’t see his face, flexing his wings a little in invitation. “Go ahead.”

Nothing happened for a few seconds, Riku digging his clawtips anxiously into the palms of his leather gloves. Then Sora’s fingers pressed against Riku’s back, not where he expected it along his wings, but in the center just over his spine. The touch was light, Sora probably trying to warn Riku where his hands were; it sent warmth rippling through Riku, as if Sora had done something much more suggestive.

And then Sora slid his hand up to palm the space between Riku’s wings, which apparently was very sensitive. Riku’s breath caught, glad he was facing the other way as heat rose to his cheeks. It felt equally good when Sora ran his hand from the shoulder joint of Riku’s left wing up to the wrist joint, curling his hand over the top edge of the wing.

“They’re so big,” Sora said, awed. Riku had to bite down on a whine at how suggestive that sounded. “And soft! I guess it’s the same as the rest of your skin…”

“I guess,” Riku said, struggling to keep his voice even. Sora’s hands felt so warm against the thin skin of his wings. When Sora touched the sensitive V where his wing’s wrist divided into fingers, Riku’s wings flinched in reflexively to protect the delicate bones.

“Did I hurt you?” Sora asked.

“No,” Riku assured. “It’s just a reflex.” He took a deep breath and forced his wings to relax, spreading them back out, maybe even a bit wider than before.

“Ok, show off,” Sora grumbled to himself, moving from the left wing to the right. His touch was firmer now, more confident. He had stepped in closer, and Riku could feel Sora’s body heat like a warm line along his wing, especially where the thin skin stretched between the struts.

Riku squeezed his eyes shut, his flush spreading from his cheeks up to his ears and down the back of his neck and his throat. If Sora touched him like that much longer, Riku wasn’t sure what he might end up doing in this form. “Sora.”

“Hm?” Sora gave Riku’s wing a last squeeze, then ducked under it to get a look at Riku’s face. “What’s the…oh. You liked that.”

“Sora, please,” Riku begged, keeping his eyes shut while he tried to get a grip on himself. He was supposed to be protecting Sora, fighting nightmares, not getting distracted. Not getting all hot and bothered about a little wing touching.

Sora’s hands cupped Riku’s cheeks, and Riku’s eyes popped open without permission.

“Yeah, you really liked it,” Sora chuckled, low and knowing. That voice, and Sora’s little smirk, went right to Riku’s gut, turning up his arousal like Sora was twisting the oven dial. “Your eyes are so pretty pink.”

“Come on,” Riku said gruffly. He tried to turn his face away, out of Sora’s hands, but Sora’s grip was firm.

“What are you being so shy for? I like it too,” Sora said. Riku blinked, suddenly noticing that Sora had a streak of pink over his nose, blue eyes bright with interest.

“You do?” Riku frowned. “Even when I’m…” He shrugged a little, wings echoing the motion of his shoulders.

“Yes!” Sora insisted, the vehemence of his reply surprising Riku. “You know I like form changes, both yours and mine.” His gaze turned steely. “I love you, no matter what form you’re in, you know that.”

“I do know that,” Riku agreed, abashed. He was caught off-guard by Sora kicking off the ground to wrap arms around Riku’s neck, pressing his mouth against Riku’s fiercely. Riku caught Sora around the waist to hold him there, off the ground, falling into the kiss. Their size difference was more pronounced in this form, Riku holding Sora’s weight effortlessly, marveling at the perfect way Sora fit against his chest.

Riku tried to hold back at first, mindful of his nightmare fangs against Sora’s pouty lower lip, but Sora had no such self-preservation. He licked his way into Riku’s mouth without hesitation, the kiss turning messy as he slid his tongue along Riku’s tongue, his fangs, everywhere he could reach. Clinging with one arm, Sora wound his other hand in Riku’s hair until he had a good grip. Sora yanked suddenly, surprising a growl out of Riku’s throat, and making him tighten his grip on Sora’s thighs until his clawtips poked into the fabric.

“Ah!” Sora gasped, kiss breaking as he arched his back.

“Be honest,” Riku said, enough of his embarrassment drained away to tease. “Is it the form change you like, or just that I’m bigger and stronger like this?”

“Well…” Sora squirmed, which Riku took great satisfaction in. “The wings are a nice bonus. But…this might be sort of my fault.”

“How?” Riku asked, brow furrowing. He’d turned out this way because he’d let his anger get out of control, he’d assumed.

“You know how we went to that world a couple weeks ago?” Sora explained. “And met Goliath and those guys?”

“Yeah,” Riku said. They’d been tracking down a Heartless nest and landed in a city called New York, which had reminded Riku too much of Quadratum. Sora had liked it, though, making friends immediately with Elisa, Goliath, and their family.

“And world order magic changed you into a gargoyle?” Sora continued. Sora had been his normal self, but it wasn’t strange for that spell to affect them differently, and Riku hadn’t thought much of it. “Well, I really liked that.”

“You did?” Riku asked, thinking back on their few days in New York. It had been annoying that he slept as a statue all day, but the strength was convenient for fighting and gliding between the skyscrapers had been fun, especially with Sora clinging tightly around his neck.

Sora was blushing harder, Riku realized, his hands fluttering restlessly on Riku’s shoulders.

“Oh!” Riku caught on finally. They hadn’t had enough time in New York to fool around, and then the Thundaza incident had happened after, so they hadn’t talked about it since. This form was pretty close to his gargoyle form, now that Riku thought about it. “You’re into it like that?”

“I’ve been thinking about it a lot,” Sora admitted. “I might’ve changed your nightmare form, since this is my dream and all.”

“Just thinking about it?” Riku couldn’t resist prying. Sora’s gaze dropped to Riku’s shoulder, face Crimson Jazz red, which was all the answer Riku needed. Heat gathered low in Riku’s belly at the idea of Sora getting himself off, thinking about him. He clutched Sora tighter to his chest “Sora.”

“I know, I know,” Sora said breathlessly, hiding his face in the curve of Riku’s neck. Riku felt the wet press of Sora’s lips against his throat, then the edge of his teeth. “…Can we?”

“Here?” Riku asked, still hesitant. He wasn’t opposed to dream sex, which they certainly did often enough while separated or for no reason at all, and the relief and adrenaline after a nightmare often led to comfort sex as well.

“You can wake me up if you don’t want to,” Sora assured. His voice always turned light like that when he was offering to give up a thing that he actually wanted. “I promise I’ll be just as hot for you without the wings.”

“Will you, though?” Riku asked, trying to keep a straight face and failing. He curled his wings in suddenly around Sora, big enough that they covered him like a blanket. “Are you sure?”

Sora shivered, hard enough that Riku felt it all the way down. “Mmm.”

“Thought so.” No arguing with that, Riku supposed, not with the way their link was echoing Sora’s excited heart rate in his own chest. It always made him feel a little fuzzy, or drunk, when Sora’s heart was fast from want instead of fear. “Let’s go for it.”

“Really?” Sora asked, grip on Riku tightening, the eagerness in his voice proof that Riku had read him right, as usual.

“It’s your funeral, who knows what I’m packing down there,” Riku said, voice teasing. “Now if only this dream had someplace convenient for a nightmare to take advantage of a cute little dreamer such as yourself…”

“Mm, kiss me again and I’ll see what I can do,” Sora demanded.

Done hiding, apparently, he lifted his face away from Riku’s neck to brush his nose across Riku’s cheek, batting his eyelashes coyly. Riku caught Sora’s mouth easily. This kiss was unhurried, thorough, as Sora explored the difference in Riku’s mouth and the sharp points of his fangs. Riku shifted his grip so that only one arm was holding Sora’s waist up, sneaking his other hand under the back of Sora’s hoodie. When he dragged the tips of his claws featherlight down Sora’s spine, Sora shuddered with a low whine, breaking the kiss.

“You’re distracting me,” Sora complained, his pout so cute Riku had to kiss it again. “There, behind you.”

Pulling back reluctantly, Riku looked over his shoulder. In a small grove behind them, as if it had always been there, a marble dais was standing at about thigh-height to Riku, the top cushioned with white fabric and gold-edged pillows. It wasn’t so much a bed or any kind of furniture, as if it had been carved out of a natural rock that was already there.

“Sometimes I have some questions about these fantasies of yours,” Riku murmured, even though he was already walking over to it. Sora flopped down easily on his back when Riku pulled him by the waist, arms stretched above his head and eyes low-lidded. Sora’s brown hair and tanned skin looked delectable against all that white fabric, although the neon blue Islanders Blitzball hoodie was not setting the mood. “Do you think you could make this look just a little more like a bed, and a little less like you’re a virginal sacrifice left here for me by frightened villagers?”

“Virginal,” Sora snorted, eyes fluttering closed. After a breath, the platform sprouted posts at the corners, rising high enough that Riku couldn’t reach their tops, vines twining up them and sheer fabric falling down. A princess canopy, like out of the fairytale picture book Riku had owned as a kid. Along the vines, flowers unfurled yellow trumpets in heavy clusters, making everything smell of jasmine. Sora opened one eye to raise an eyebrow. “Satisfied?”

“With you? Always,” Riku said, already reaching for the hoodie to strip it over Sora’s head. He was surprised to find the surface of the platform pleasantly cushioned when he put a knee down on it, but then again if Sora knew how to dream about anything, it was lying around in a comfortable spot. Riku reached for Sora’s pajama pants, but he paused at the sight of just how big his hands looked against Sora’s hips. He could probably span Sora’s whole waist, touching middle claws in the back and thumbs in the front. “You really think we can do this?”

“It’s dream logic, it’ll be fine,” Sora said, shrugging. He brushed Riku’s hands aside to wriggle out of his pajama pants, kicking them off. Sora settled back in a sprawl, eyes sparkling with trouble as he looked Riku over. “Speaking of dream logic, I’m real interested how you’re going to get that shirt off.”

Riku’s wings twitched, Riku suddenly more aware of them.

“The normal way,” Riku blustered, knowing that dream action was 80% confidence anyway. I’ll pull it over my head like normal, he told himself firmly, and sure enough when he reached for the hem and tugged it off in a smooth pull, it came right off as usual. He had to shake it down off one wing a little awkwardly, but not thinking about it too hard was the key. “See?”

“Ohh,” Sora said, using his ‘very fake impressed’ voice. “Let’s see you do the pants now, genius.”

Riku put his hands on his hips, since they were going to play it that way, apparently. “You can help, since you seem so interested.”

Sora sat up immediately, shifting to the edge and reaching for Riku’s hips to drag him closer. Their size difference was exaggerated this way, Sora’s face level with Riku’s abdominals. He had to spread his legs wide for Riku to fit between them, clever hands already undoing Riku’s button and dragging the zipper down. The whole picture was almost too much for Riku, Sora’s smooth, freckled shoulders glowing with a blush already, the bright blue of Sora’s eyes, and the way he was biting his lower lip in anticipation. He shoved everything down Riku’s thighs, so that Riku’s cock fell practically into Sora’s hands.

Except it wasn’t his cock at all, but a thicker, ridged monstrosity that definitely matched the size and alarming nature of his current nightmare form. Darker at the base, the color lightened to the same bruised-twilight purple as his arms up the shaft, flushed more to pink at the pointed tip. Riku tried to make a joke about it, but his brain was short-circuiting, torn between that’s not mine and wow big and that’s never gonna work. Sora had no such hesitation, hands already wrapping around the shaft. Or trying to, because down near the base where was touching, one of his hands wasn’t even close to big enough to go around. Sora had to use both, thumbs already exploring the curious line of bumps up both sides of Riku’s shaft.

Sora looked up, grinning and face flushed, so beautiful. “This is definitely going all the way inside me.”

“Fuck,” Riku muttered, covering his face with his hands as half his blood rushed into his face and the other down into his cock, steadily swelling in Sora’s hands. Sora was going to kill him. The wet touch of Sora’s mouth on the tip of his cock startled a groan out of Riku. “Ahh!”

“Easy,” Sora coaxed. He reached up to pull one of Riku’s hands down, and settled it on top of his head. Riku opened one eye, and Sora was smiling sweetly up at him, like he wasn’t happily jerking off a nightmare cock with two hands. “You should watch.”

“Yeah,” Riku agreed, sliding his hand down to the back of Sora’s head, palming it like a Blitzball.

Sora held his gaze as he put his mouth back on Riku, pink lips stretching as he slid his mouth down. The pointed tip gave way to thick ridges almost immediately, so that Sora didn’t get very far at all, but the feel of Sora licking along those ridges was heavenly. Riku worked his clawtips down into Sora’s hair, not pushing, just scratching at his scalp, and Sora’s eyes fluttered shut. Determinedly, Sora worked Riku in a little deeper, then a little more, the stretch of his jaw obvious. Meanwhile his hands had figured out the sensitive spots down Riku’s shaft, that the little bumps were more sensitive to the calluses on his fingers, while squeezing firmly around the rounded swell of the base made Riku’s breath catch.

Humming in satisfaction, Sora pulled off to catch his breath, reaching up to rub at the hinge of his jaw. He looked entirely too pleased with himself as he grinned up at Riku, lips wet and starting to puff up, hair mussed from Riku’s claws.

“Liked that, did you?” Riku asked. His voice was too low and rough for it to come out as banter, turning it into real dirty talk instead. Riku glanced down at Sora’s cock, flushed pink and heavy against his thigh.

“Uh-huh,” Sora agreed readily. He let go of Riku’s cock and leaned back on one hand to grip his own. Confident of Riku’s full attention, Sora stroked himself slowly up and down, pausing at the top to rub his thumb in a slow circle around the head. “You’re gonna take care of me, right?”

“Yes,” Riku promised, pushing Sora back with a hand to the center of his chest until he was lying flat again. Grabbing Riku’s wrist in both hands, Sora held Riku’s hand there a second, long enough for Riku to feel every detail of how big his hand was against Sora’s chest, how warm Sora’s skin was, the steady throb of Sora’s heart under his palm. “Bend your knee.”

Sora complied, putting one foot flat on the edge of the bed, the other leg still dangling down next to Riku’s thigh. Riku wrapped his left arm around Sora’s bent leg, holding them flush together as an anchor point and grazing clawtips lightly across Sora’s inner thigh just hard enough to make him shiver. His right hand was already down between Sora’s spread legs. Mildly worried about his claws, Riku curled his finger to rub at Sora’s hole with his knuckle instead.

“Riku,” Sora sighed. He was trying to push down into the touch already, trying to edge further down the bed, which was exactly why Riku was holding him in place. “Please.”

“Easy,” Riku said, wondering if maybe dropping to his knees and using his mouth was a better idea. He was already gripping Sora’s thigh with his other hand harder than he meant to, leaving small red scratches along Sora’s skin when he shifted his grip.

“You won’t hurt me,” Sora said, as if reading Riku’s mind. Riku raised his eyes to meet Sora’s, heart squeezing at the confidence in his face and voice. “I want your fingers.”

Well, it was Sora’s dream after all, Riku knew, so if he thought it would be true, then it would. Riku still watched Sora’s face carefully as he rubbed the flat of one finger across Sora’s hole and then worked the tip inside. Sora liked everything to be easy in dreams, so everything was slick enough already. Sure enough, there was no discomfort on Sora’s face at all, only pleasure as Riku pushed in up to his knuckle, Sora’s mouth falling open on a soft sigh.

Even this part wasn’t strictly necessary in dream sex, more for Riku’s peace of mind than Sora’s, but Sora liked being fingered almost as much as being fucked, sometimes, and Riku liked it just as much. He loved the slick, hot feel of Sora opening up around his fingers and how quickly Sora became desperate from it. He loved watching the changes in Sora’s expression as he worked a second finger in, curled both fingers, drew them out slowly and then pushed them back in deep. Sora’s breaths stuttered and sped up, rocking his hips from side to side as if trying to get Riku’s fingers everywhere at once. Sora’s cock was hard enough to curl up against Riku’s stomach, precome beading at the tip and smudging against his skin when he squirmed. Again, Riku debated dropping low enough to use his mouth, to lick the wet smudges off Sora’s belly, but knew he definitely wouldn’t stop there.

“Fuck me already,” Sora asked, dragging one hand up through his hair and casually rolling a nipple with the other.

“Not yet,” Riku said, flirting with a third fingertip around the rim of Sora’s hole.

“Yes yet,” Sora insisted. He kicked his free foot against the outside of Riku’s thigh. “You know that doesn’t matter. If I wake up before you get that inside me, I’m gonna be so mad at you.”

Riku swallowed a grumble, because Sora was right, but stubbornly pulled his two fingers out and thrust three in at once just to make Sora feel it. Sora didn’t disappoint, crying out and arching his back.

“Now,” Sora ordered. He reached down to grip his knee, spreading himself open wider so that Riku could see everything, the slick grip of Sora’s hole around his fingers and the red marks up the pale skin of Sora’s thighs.

“Ok, ok,” Riku said, half-wheezing from the sudden arousal clenching in his chest and stomach. Pulling his hand free, Riku stroked his cock to spread the slickness over it, whimpering at the weird feel of it in his hand, too big and unfamiliar. The little bumps up the sides really were sensitive, and the layers of ridges at the top and bottom. Riku wondered what those would feel like to Sora as they slid over his rim and rubbed against him inside. He shifted in closer, his tip smudging against Sora’s rim and despite how aroused he was, anxiety rose up that this definitely was not going to work.

“Don’t think about it so much,” Sora coaxed soothingly, used to this in a variety of contexts. “Don’t look, look up here.”

Riku lifted his eyes to meet Sora’s. Sora grinned at him carelessly, relaxed on his back; his flush had spread all down his chest by now, temptingly sweet and pink in a way that made Riku want to put his mouth on every part of him. Unconsciously, Riku rocked his hips forward, pressing bluntly against Sora.

“That’s it, like that,” Sora encouraged. Riku started to press in by touch, the tip of his cock pointed at least so keeping it in place wasn’t any harder than usual. “Yeah, come on, more. Don’t tease me.”

“Fuck,” Riku groaned helplessly. Sora was somehow taking him in, his slick heat squeezing tight around the first few rows of ridges. Riku fought the urge to look, not wanting to get in his head about it, concentrating just on the wide-eyed look on Sora’s face and rocking his hips steadily forward. “What’s it like?”

“It’s…mmm,” Sora struggled for words, breaths hitching. “Good, real good. Damn, can feel each of those things popping inside me, like…like…” Sora trailed off into a moan, hands coming up to fumble for a grip on Riku.

“Oh shit,” Riku echoed as he got halfway in and the first of the little bumps made contact with Sora’s skin. He was far enough in to not need his hand as a guide any more and set his hands on Sora’s hips, tilting them up so that gravity was helping with his slow press inside. Sora’s noises got louder, and he grabbed Riku’s forearms, fingers sinking in deep enough to bruise, if that was a thing Riku’s purple skin could even do.

Riku took his time right there in the middle, dragging his hips back and forth just far enough to keep those little bumps rubbing over Sora’s rim one by one by one. He would have done it just to hear Sora’s moans rising steadily in pitch, but it felt fucking amazing on his end as well, like when Sora teased the notch under his cock’s head with his tongue, but all up his shaft instead. Finally, he pushed in a little more forcefully than he meant to, so that the first of the flared ridges at his base caught suddenly against Sora’s hole. Riku forced himself to pause so that he could shift his grip on Sora and rebalance himself.

“Don’t stop there, coward,” Sora baited. His voice was high, his eyes glassy, but his grin was fearless. He dug fingernails into Riku’s arms harder. “Give me all of it.”

“You’re so fucking crazy,” Riku muttered. Before he could talk himself out of it, he pulled out enough to get a running start, then thrust forward hard enough to slam into Sora the rest of the way. Sora made an unholy noise, and Riku shuddered harder, feeling the slide-stick of skin on skin where his pelvis met Sora’s thighs. “Sorry, sorry, are you ok?”

“Fuck, Riku,” Sora groaned. Riku opened his mouth in alarm, but Sora added quickly, “S’all good, so good, just so much. You can feel that, right?”

Sora clenched tighter, and Riku felt what he meant, every centimeter of his too-big, oversensitive nightmare cock carving space just for him inside of Sora. A wave of hot possession rolled through Riku, from his skull down to his hips, fucking up into Sora just a little more. It felt impossible for there to even be that much of him inside Sora, nonsensical in the best dream way, the breakdown of logic making everything feel hotter, more intense.

“There’s so much of you,” Sora said, dazed.

Suddenly Riku had to look, sitting back up and dragging Sora to the very edge of the bed by the hips so that he could get both feet back on the ground. Holding Sora’s thighs in place, Riku pulled out slowly, drinking in Sora’s long moan as he watched the thickness of his cock slide out of Sora. He pushed back in just as slowly, marveling at Sora taking him back in, stretched so wide around him and still begging him for it.

Then he did it again, and again, trying to keep it slow, but his own impatience picked up the pace gradually. Slow was hot as hell, but faster meant the satisfying slap of Riku’s thighs against Sora’s as he bottomed out. Sora was scrabbling for a better grip on Riku, but could only manage to get fingers around Riku’s wrists, too close to the edge of the bed to sit up.

“Too far away,” Sora protested, struggling to pull himself up by his abs and groaning when he fell flat again. “Rikuuuu.”

“I got you,” Riku agreed. At the top of a stroke, buried as deep as he could get inside Sora, Riku slid one arm under Sora’s back and hauled him upright. Sora flopped against Riku’s chest, arms immediately curling up around his neck.

Holding his tail up for balance, Riku kneed his way up onto the bed so that he could sit, Sora held firmly in his lap, urging Sora’s thighs more comfortably up around his waist. Gravity dropped Sora down onto Riku’s cock, dragging a sweet moan out of his throat. The height difference was too big for them to kiss and keep Sora on his cock, unfortunately, but Riku rubbed his palm up and down Sora’s spine, then up into his hair. Sora trembled and shuddered against him, groaning nonsense against his chest, pliant in Riku’s hands.

“Want me like this?” Riku asked, pressing kisses to Sora’s hair and temple as he spoke as close to Sora’s ear as the size difference would allow. “Or on your stomach?” Sora loved it that way, Riku’s weight holding him down, holding him in place.

“Stay there,” Sora ordered. He was shifting his grip, trying to get his knees under him, although Riku couldn’t tell what he was trying to do exactly. “So I can…nnn, m’all wobbly.”

Riku anchored an arm around Sora’s waist, helping steady him. “What are you trying to…” Riku’s words dried up as Sora snuck his hand around his side instead of over his shoulder, and sank fingers into the muscles right where Riku’s wing met his back. “Ohhh.”

“That,” Sora said, some of his daze clearing as he got more determined. He got his hand on the right spot on the other side as well, kneading Riku’s back in firm symmetry. “Feels good, yeah?”

Riku groaned a yes, not even really a word. Sora’s hands were hot and unforgiving in the best way, making Riku’s flutter and stretch reflexively, out of his control. “Don’t stop.”

“Not gonna.” Sora dragged nails suddenly down the skin between Riku’s wings; Riku’s hips jerked up, fucking up into Sora. Sora’s nails dug in deeper. “Just like that, there,” Sora panted.

Riku’s sense of the dream narrowed to just the two of them in a bubble as he obeyed, using his grip around Sora’s waist to bounce him on his cock while Sora’s hands on his wings drove him to distraction. Time warped weirdly around them, slow then fast, Riku lost in small details like the sweat gathering in the small of Sora’s back, making his grip slip, and the sharp, sweet hurt of Sora’s teeth sinking into his chest. They would never last this long in reality, and Riku felt the burn of that all along his nerves and skin, like holding a heavy weight or a breath too long.

“Might come,” Sora warned, voice hoarse from making so much noise. He could do it without waking, sometimes, or coming might wake him up, shattering the dream suddenly around Riku.

“You can,” Riku encouraged, pulling his focus together to keep his thrusts steady. It wouldn’t hurt to get knocked out of the dream suddenly, just be disorienting, hence Sora’s warning. He really wanted to feel Sora come when he was squeezed so tight around him, taking him this deep. “I want you to, can you come for me?”

“Yeah, maybe,” Sora said, more to himself probably than to Riku, talking himself over the edge. “Yeah, oh, yeah yeah…”

Sora tensed, all trembling energy in Riku’s arms, and then went to pieces suddenly so that Riku was the only thing holding him up, the wetness of Sora’s release hot where their bellies were pressed together. The dream wavered around Riku as Sora rode it out, the air shimmering with sound and color, then solidified, Sora limp but heavy in his arms.

“Ok?” Riku asked, stroking a hand through Sora’s hair, down his spine, then back up again. Sora groaned something softly that sounded sort of like fffuuuuckkkk. He was still shivering and squeezing around Riku’s cock, making it so that Riku couldn’t hold entirely still. “Ugh, you feel amazing.”

“No, you,” Sora said, too sex-stupid to banter properly. He nuzzled his face against Riku’s chest, licking the bite mark from a minute ago. “You come too.”

“I can’t,” Riku reminded. Even if this were his dream instead of Sora’s, he still couldn’t; past a certain point, Riku would always wake up before he actually came, usually hard enough to cut diamonds and leaking messily. He was fine riding out any dream with Sora, no matter how hot and heavy, lingering in the closeness of sex and watching Sora wallow in afterglow. “I’ll wake up.”

“Don’t care.” Sora sat back just enough for them to look at each other, balance wobbling until Riku splayed a hand across his back. “I wanna see you try. When you wake up, wake me up too.” Riku opened his mouth to argue, and Sora fixed him with a steely look. “Promise, and don’t lie.”

“Promise,” Riku gave in. He leaned forward so that Sora tipped onto his back across the sheets, Riku following until he was on elbows and knees. He tried to tip his head down to kiss Sora and growled in frustration when he only got Sora’s nose. “It’s because you’re such a size queen we can’t kiss, asshole.”

Sora snorted a laugh, delighted, as he repositioned his arms back around Riku’s neck. He gave Riku’s hair a casual yank. “So sue me. I don’t tell you how to dream your dreams.”

“You actually do,” Riku retorted. Balance resettled, he gave a test thrust that sent heat singing down his back. “Hence the wings and demon dick.”

“You’re so mad when my ideas are great,” Sora said, cheshire cat grin unfolding across his face. “Mm, shut up and keep fucking me just like that.”

“Yes, sir,” Riku said, only rolling his eyes a little. It felt too good to keep talking anyway, with Sora loose-limbed and relaxed, his arms curled around Riku’s shoulders and thighs squeezing his hips. Riku loved this part of sex, where Sora was sweet and clingy with afterglow and encouraging Riku to chase down his own release by rambling nonsense in between soft moans.

It couldn’t last forever, sadly. Riku felt his grip on the dream slipping as it all became too good, too much. Riku grunted in annoyance, gripping Sora tighter, not ready.

“Go on, I got you,” Sora murmured, winding fingers tight in Riku’s hair. Riku could barely feel him pulling it, slipping under. “You better wake me up like you promised.”

Riku fell out of the dream like falling asleep, everything going dark. When he opened his eyes again, it was to the ceiling of their room in the Mysterious Tower, softly golden. They’d forgotten to turn the light out before they fell asleep. Riku shifted, feeling like his consciousness was still only half-tethered in his body, and then the sharp ache of being incredibly hard woke him up the rest of the way.

“Nnngh,” Riku groaned, rolling onto his side. Sora was right next to him, close enough that his deep breathing brushed Riku’s bare shoulder, still out cold. He looked relaxed, hair curling in his face, some color back in his cheeks even if the smudges under his eyes were still there. The urge to let Sora sleep rose up in his chest like a wave.

But Riku had promised, and Sora would be mad at him for breaking it. Riku didn’t want to start a fight over something so stupid when he’d only been back for a few hours. Sighing through his nose, Riku reached up to cup Sora’s cheek. He rubbed his thumb over the curve of it, increasing in firmness until Sora stirred.

“Wake up, you.”

Sora scrunched his nose, and his eyes opened slowly. For a second he stared at Riku blearily, then the spark returned to his eyes.

“You’re home,” Sora said in relief, as if just re-realizing it, and rolled into Riku with all the coordination of a car crash. Riku grunted as Sora’s forehead hit his collarbone. Riku shifted into him, hoping to avoid any injuries requiring more than a Cura, with the result that his erection rubbed against Sora’s stomach in a not very subtle way. “Whoa, someone’s happy to see me. What’s that about?”

“You were dreaming,” Riku said, really hoping he would not have to explain. He groaned as Sora wrapped a hand around him.

“I…oh.” Sora blinked a few times as he apparently remembered. He gave Riku that same cheshire cat grin from in the dream. “Ohhhhh.”

“Don’t tease,” Riku begged, desperate, already rolling half onto Sora and not in control of his hips. “I’m dying here.”

“So melodramatic,” Sora purred, which was rich coming from him. “C’mere.” He let Riku push him over, so that he was on his back with Riku’s weight pressing him into the mattress. His grip around Riku’s cock was perfect, tight and sure.

Rolling his hips into Sora’s firm strokes, Riku took all of a minute to come. The force of it felt like it knocked Riku flat after so much buildup, orgasm dragging him under longer than normal, his sense of time stretched like a rubber band. He slumped against Sora, limbs like jelly, although his hips were still flexing his cock into Sora’s fist as Sora squeezed him through the aftershocks.

“Wish you had finished inside me like that,” Sora murmured. Riku moaned quietly into Sora’s shoulder as another aftershock rippled through him at the idea. “Damn, are you still coming?”

“Kinda,” Riku wheezed. Heat crept up his ears and the back of his neck as Sora slid his hand up between them, because he knew how big the mess was going to be when he sat up and looked. He always came more than Sora, which was the only metric he had to judge by, but after they’d been apart too long and then dreamed about a huge nightmare cock, well…

“Nice,” Sora said in approval. He ruffled his clean hand up through Riku’s hair and let him lie there as long as he wanted to recollect the scattered fragments of his brain.

Eventually Riku did peel himself loose and grabbed one of their shirts off the floor to clean them off. Sora teased him about the size of the mess even though he still had the lazy, satisfied smile from ear to ear. They curled up together under the blankets again, Riku claiming some of the kisses that he’d been cruelly denied earlier. Heat gathered between them, and they’d probably go again, but for now there was no rush and nowhere to be for hours.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Riku asked when they’d settled just far enough apart to see each other.

“About what?” Sora asked, eyelids heavy from the way Riku was scratching fingers through his hair down at the base of his skull.

“About your not very subconscious desire to get dicked down by an actual monster.”

“Oh, shut up.” Sora opened one eye wider to eye him. “The monster wasn’t complaining, as I recall.”

Riku laughed. “I just mean…you know. You were really into it. We do weird dream stuff sometimes, but you were really into that.” He brushed Sora’s hair back from his face, thumbing the curve of his ear. “We can go back to New York City, stay a little longer. Although I’m not sure the real version would satisfy you, since you were definitely dreaming yourself a little smaller. Hm?”

“It’s not all about that,” Sora protested, cheek going warm under Riku’s hand. “You’re not some random nightmare, you’re you. And you know I think form changes are sexy.”

“Get out of here,” Riku said, amused. Sora didn’t seem ready to talk about it, not for real, and that was ok. He poked Sora in the side, brushing fingers down his ribs ticklishly, turning it into a tease. “Form changes are one thing, but you are seriously a monsterfucker.”

“A what?” Sora spluttered, slapping Riku’s hand away.

“A monsterfucker,” Riku repeated. He had not enjoyed the conversation where Lea had accidentally taught him this term, but it was sure fun whipping it out now. “You’re hot for horns and a big pair of wings, and you should have seen your face when my freaky demon dick fell into your hands.” Riku wiggled his eyebrows. “No shame, sweetheart, be yourself. Which is a monsterfucker.”

“Only for you,” Sora snorted, giving Riku a shove. “And you’re barely ever even a monster! If I’m a monsterfucker, then…then Belle’s one too.”

“Sora, no!” Riku groaned. This had definitely backfired. He flopped onto his back dramatically. “You can’t call a Princess of Heart a monsterfucker!”

“Well, she is,” Sora insisted, laughing at Riku’s scrunched face. “She didn’t know that curse would break and she was still totally down!” Sora gave Riku a mischievous glance. “He was kind of cuter the other way, if you ask me.”

“You’re the worst.” Riku scrubbed his face with a hand, laughing in spite of himself. He was never going to be able to look Belle or Adam in the face the next time they visited. Sora slid closer to roll onto Riku’s chest, his weight familiar and welcome. When Riku opened his eyes, Sora had his chin pillowed on his crossed arms, blue eyes serious.

“Will you still love me even if I am a monsterfucker?” Sora asked.

“Of course,” Riku answered. “Obviously, since you are.”

Sora ran a fingertip over a half-healed scrape across Riku’s shoulder. “Will you still love me even if my magic doesn’t come back?”

“Yes,” Riku assured, heart aching for Sora. “Always. But your magic will be fine. You had enough of it to form change me so hard I couldn’t change back.”

“Sorry about that,” Sora said, managing half a smile. The anxiety in his eyes had faded, at least.

“I’m not sorry,” Riku said. He wrapped arms around Sora’s shoulders and squeezed tight. “I’ll go nightmare dick for you anytime you want.”

“Don’t threaten me with a good time,” Sora answered, leaning forward to kiss Riku firmly enough to cut the conversation off.
